Weekly Word: April 10, It is Finished

It is Finished ~

John 19:30 The Finished Work of the Cross –

Jesus cried, “it is finished,” and then He returned to Heaven sitting down at the right hand of God the Father. The work of redemtion is complete, paid in full as a result of the finished work of the cross. Jesus Christ’s death covers your every sing, from the cradle to the grave.

Ephesians 2:8-9 “This is not of yourself but a gift from God, not by works that anyone can boast.” You can not add to the completed work of the cross! Saving faith requires trusting and having faith in the finishing work of Christ.

Weekly Word, April 3, Forsaken

Matthew 27:46 God why have you forsaken me ~

At Calvary Jesus asks one of the most heart wrenching questions ever recorded, “God why have you forsaken me?” These words are also found in Psalms 22:1-3. The bible says that at Calvary God made Jesus “who knew no sin” to be sin, so that we might be the righteousness of God in Him. At that moment Jesus felt like God had forsaken Him. Overwhelmed and abandoned, only you know when you have felt this way. No other living soul has a satisfactory answer of why for you. The question must be directed to the Lord and to Him alone! Only God your Father can pour His healing on your breaking heart. In addition to asking the Lord for help, you must be willing to accept His answer. Romans 8:28 assures us God can work everything out in our lives for good – we just have to trust Him!

Weekly Word: March 27, Forgiveness

Forgiveness

Forgive those who hurt you ~

It’s hard to believe when people hurt us it may have been unintentional or done in ignorance. Being flogged, humiliated, and nailed to the cross, Jesus said “Father forgive them” and remember what he says next; they don’t know what they are doing. As a result, forgiving means we are refusing to remain a victim. Moreover forgiveness allows us to let go of a grudge & keeps us from retaliating. Therefore freeing ourselves from the control of those who offend us. Jesus said to pray for anyone who mistreats us. By praying for them, we are doing for them what God does for us, and what they can’t do for themselves.

Weekly Word: March 20, Hope of Easter

He is Risen ~

Hope is a beautiful word! It is to look forward to a specific outcome, to wish for a particular ending, or to dream about a goal. It is also a common past time of ours. We often hope for good health, better paying jobs, a bigger house, kids, longer vacations and the list goes on. Hope is powerful force. It encourages us, motivates us, gives us purpose and even impacts the course of our lives.

The Hope of Easter is in Jesus Christ’s Resurrection!

Why does a miracle that happened over two thousand years ago in ancient Palestine matter today? The resurrection matters in every way! It’s spiritual and eternal effect can’t be over stated. His resurrection guarantees life changing hope to all who believe, both in this life and the life to come. Out of the resurrection flows many truths about Jesus Himself, and practical everyday blessings for all believers as well as marvelous eternal promises.

Over the next few weeks we will think about the four truths about Jesus that His resurrection reveals. Lord, during this season of the cross help us to have a new realization of what it means in our lives today!

Weekly Word: March 13, Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit Acts 2 ~

G. Campbell Morgan – writes about the accusation leveled at the Holy Spirit filled disciples on the day of Pentecost; the one of many in the crowd, that the disciples were drunk. –

First of all, carefully consider Peter’s answer to the accusation. “They are not drunk in the way that you think.” Then, compare this with Paul’s injunction in Eph. 5:18 “Don’t be drunk with wine… but be filled with the Spirit.” While one is a false and destructive method of attempting to realize life’s fullness. Yet the other is a true and effective method.

Has anyone ever charged you with being drunk with Christianity? We lack the flashing eye, and the pulsating song, and tremendous enthusiasm of an overwhelming conviction. Ultimately this is what our cities need to create the opportunity for prophetic proclamation. Furthermore, the church’s responsibility is that her members be so Spirit filled that the Holy Spirit may be able to produce the new phenomena required to startle this age. What is the use preaching if the world isn’t amazed by it!

The Holy Spirit in Us ~

God’s preparing amazing people, and those type of people are hard to ignore. As a result, the world can’t help but check out someone whose life is completely different, exhilarating with the fullness only the Spirit of God can give. We can’t live this amazing life without an amazing partner… Therefore Jesus promised his disciples a partner, an advocate who would be with them forever. Because the fullness of their life depended on how full they were with the Holy Spirit.

Of course we want to live such amazing lives that people will wonder what happened! Just one visit with Father God to fill or refill us again with the Holy Spirit & you’ll be amazed.

Weekly Word: Feb. 27 – March 6, Storms

Luke 8:22-26 & Romans 15:4

Storms

Don’t be surprised when without warning life becomes difficult. The enemy will do all in his power to discourage you! No doubt trying to get you to stop pursuing the direction God has for your life.

Many times in our lives God gives us direction through His word, or the Holy Spirit will prompt us a certain way. Strangely enough, sometimes when we follow the Lord’s voice the winds of adversity blow up a fierce whirlwind in front of us. Anything to distract us from God, to sidetrack us or keep us from moving ahead, making us want to give up. Sometimes it seems like the Lord is silent during these storms, even when we’ve poured out in prayer with all we have.

So what should we do? I believe wisdom says don’t give up, stay on course! Whatever the last direction God gives us, stick to that staying persistent and steadfast. Don’t allow what seems to be silence stray your path. Ultimately with faith and patience, Jesus will always come through!

Weekly Word: February 20th, Prayer

February 20th,

Prayer Changes Everything

This week’s Prayer Changes Everything describes three aspects of prayer taken from a story in Luke. Lets take a look at Luke chapter eleven, the disciples ask Jesus to teach them how to pray. So Jesus taught them to pattern their prayer after what we call “The Lord’s Prayer.” He gave the disciples an example they could understand. This instance was about a neighbor needing bread around midnight because of an unexpected guest.

The Lesson learned is this;
* Pray for something specific – in this case bread
* Have confidence in the request – knocked at midnight
* Be persistent – kept knocking

We serve a gracious, great, caring, merciful God! And once we know His will we are able to ask Him specifically for what we need. Then, have the confidence He will answer, if we continue to be persistent not giving up before the answer comes.

God answers prayer through Jesus Christ!

Weekly Word: February 13th, Trust God

February 13th, Trust God

~ Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. ~

Have you discovered how different your values are from God’s? We’ll work our fingers to the bone for money, but we find it hard to crack a book, listen to a message, or set aside thirty minutes for His wisdom. We work hard for comfort, yet God is more interested in our character. Education is not wisdom! You can memorize facts, pass tests, earn degrees, and still not have wisdom. So what is the secret… “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5) He didn’t say don’t use it, He said don’t lean on your own understanding.

After you’ve researched, consulted with others, and done everything you know how, come back to one unchanging fact; Jesus Christ is your source, your strength, and your guide. He is our final answer. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path. (Proverbs 3:6)

Weekly Word: February 5th Love

February 5th,

~ Love – I heard a preacher say, everything I ever need to know about theology I learned from one song, “Jesus Loves Me This I Know.” ~

Why has this simple song become so universally known & loved? Because it expresses the single most significant and profound truth known to humanity in three simple words – Jesus loves ME. No doubt, receiving the love of Jesus and living in it everyday is the first step in having a love that’s worth giving away.

Let’s stay connected to the living Christ and there we can be the life & hope to those around us. For this reason, Jesus says He is the vine and we are the branches, apart from me you can do nothing. Therefore, when people who know us say, what’s different about you, we can say Jesus loves me and He loves you too!

Weekly Word: January 30th, God’s Way

January 29th – February 4th,

God’s Way

~ As we have gone through the month of January we have reset our hearts, minds, voice, and hands to serve the Lord in the way He wants us to instead of the way we want to. ~

In light of being a believer dedicated to the word of God, we are living in a deeply divided country. What instructions does the Lord give us… 1st Timothy 2:1-3 says “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior.”

In view of that scripture no matter what side you are on, lets take time to pray for our national leaders especially for our President. For God’s guidance to lead them all to do what is right, so we can have a good & peaceful life!

Release life through your words, God will do the rest!
